Service to the industry provides a critical means to not only stay connected to relevant issues but also make a positive contribution to the industry and society.  My involvements have ranged from serving on the Michigan Tourism Planning Council to the National Tourism Foundation Board of Trustees as grant's committee chair  to serving as a reviewer for a journal and for refereed conference presentations.

In 2004, the National Tourism Foundation merged with the Traveler's Conservation Fund to form Tourism Cares for Tomorrow.  I was one of six elected to serve on the new merged board where I was chair of the education committee until my term ended in 2007.  We allocated over $50,000 per year in scholarships as well as $200,000 in sustainable grants to tourism destinations.
